MARION, SC. - Marion Regional Healthcare System (MRHS) announced today that it has been acquired by a subsidiary of Community Health Systems, Inc. The acquisition includes 124-bed Marion County Medical Center, which, effective July 7, will operate as Marion Regional Hospital. The transaction also includes 92-bed Mullins Nursing Center, and nine local physician practices and clinics:
- Advanced Medical Associates Internal Medicine
- Aynor Medical Center
- Marion County Surgical Center
- Marion Medical Center OB/GYN
- Marion Medical Group Internal Medicine
- Marion Pediatrics
- Mullins Surgical Associates
- Pee Dee Pediatrics
- Total Family Care
"Through our new affiliation, we will have access to the management expertise and capital resources necessary to succeed and grow in what has become a challenging environment for stand-alone community hospitals," said Don Lloyd, chief executive officer of MRHS. "After carefully considering our strategic options, we are very pleased to complete this transaction and we can now look forward to long-term success and growth.”
Under the terms of the agreement, Marion Regional Hospital will continue to provide the same essential health services it currently offers. The hospital will be governed by a board of trustees comprised of community members and physicians who serve on the hospital’s medical staff. Marion Regional Hospital will continue to provide charity care and to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The agreement also includes commitments for capital investment and physician recruitment.
“These investments will help the hospital maintain its role as a trusted provider of health services for our community,” said Lloyd. “As we expand our services and recruit new physicians to our community, we will further improve the quality of care available for local residents.”
Marion Regional Hospital becomes the sixth Community Health Systems affiliated hospital in South Carolina.
Marion Regional Hospital, Mullins Nursing Center, Aynor Medical Center and their affiliated medical practices are operated under the direction of Community Health Systems, Inc. Collectively these facilities will continue to provide comprehensive medical services to the Pee Dee and eastern South Carolina.
